It’s 2021! Yay! So it’s about time we got excited about all the new books that are being released this year. One of these books is a thriller about an Instamum who is being stalked by a mysterious stranger hellbent on getting revenge. *suspenseful music* I guarantee that youβll be seeing a lot of hype around this book. And without any further ado, I give you: my review of People Like Her by Ellery Lloyd.
Many thanks to Pan Macmillan and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

My Review
People Like Her is one of those slow burn, character driven thrillers that Iβm not too keen on but enjoy under the right circumstances. (I enjoyed this one!) And while I wasnβt put off by its multiple POVs, I was put off by the fact that I liked the characters so little that I had no empathy for them whatsoever. No matter what awful things happened to them. Even when, under normal circumstances, these awful things would have been extremely triggering for me.
That said, this book made me very anxious. And yes, it has made me re-examine my online presence and what that might mean for our family.
All in all, People Like Her is an interesting debut. Itβs full of twists that I didnβt see coming. But I will say that ultimately, I think it was too dark for me. The climax in particular made me feel physically ill. So while I would recommend this to thriller fans, I donβt think itβs suitable for all and I advise that prospective readers check content warnings before diving in!

This sounds like an interesting book. You’ve written a great review, although its a shame that you couldn’t connect with the characters. I must admit that my anxiety can’t usually take reading thrillers, but I know I couple of friends would enjoy reading this book, so I will suggest it to them instead.
I should probably stop reading thrillers myself to be honest. My anxiety gets so bad that I start compulsively chewing and suffer from low days afterwards. But they’re just so compelling to read that I love them!
Thanks for suggesting to your friends! π
Wow! Another book that I haven’t heard of yet but really want to get my hands on. I love the idea of a thriller that dives into the influencer industry so thank you for sharing. I’ll be keeping an eye out for this!
Thanks Hannah, hope you enjoy it! π
Oh dear, I hate it when thrillers become too dark, and sometimes it can be hard for authors to tread the line between interesting, and dark. I’m glad you provided this review though, thank you for sharing x
I agree! Luckily this one went dark very close to the end so I was already invested. If the dark intentions had been clear earlier on I might have had to walk away!
Such an interesting book! I must say that I never heard about it before. This is usually not type the type of book I reach for but I’m trying to expand to different genres so I might give this one a go.

I am not a huge fan of thrillers, but I am trying to widen my reading horizons and the blurb of this book sounds great! Thanks for sharing x
